At our second stop at Eagle Landing State we saw a very large white breast (perched in a tree) at the north end of the park. Just thought it was a very large hawk. As soon as it rose to take flight it was evident it was no hawk. It was unmistakingly a Snowy Owl. It flew to other side of the CT River near the Goodspeed parking lot. Unfortunately we lost sight of it behind the docked boat. When we got to the other side, we were unble to locate it again. Had I not seen a snowy Owl at Hammonasset (up close) years ago I would not be as sure of this sighting as I am. Its going on our list.

That would be a good bird on any Christmas count, but for the inland Salmon River count - that is an excellent find.
