Re: T&T: ship traffic on Great Lakes

Though not as dramatic as Mike's report, shipping is down on the Great
Lakes, at least in Duluth, MN, which is the largest and busiest seaport
on the lakes. Several lakers have already been laid up for the winter
here. That usually does not happen until late December. Things are
slowing down. Of course, there are NO recreational vessels on the water
now. Maybe a few commercial fishermen, but even they are few and far
between. Winter has already arrived. Temps down in the single digits and
some snow.

I have just been through the traffic lanes off Los Angeles, San
Francisco, and Seattle. Ship traffic is almost non existent. We had
one
such ship pass us from Neah Bay to Port Angeles and one more during
the
next day from Port Angeles to Seattle.

I have read that large numbers of such ship will be going into layup
if
the economy does not improve.
