Nobeltec Max Pro

I just upgraded to Max Pro from VNS last week. This may have already
been said, and I apologize if so, but here's the bad news about this
program so far:

Besides dongles...

  1. It doesn't take Passport Vector charts. Not at all. So any such
investment made when you were using VNS won't work. It takes nobody's
vector charts but Nobeltec's. (AKA C-MAP)
  2. You have to unlock support for Raster charts with a code. A free code
at the moment, but who knows. Once that's been done, I had no problem
loading RNC charts from NOAA. As I said before, ENC charts from NOAA,
    being vector charts, don't work.
  3. BSB charts from anybody ought to load, but all I can say for sure is
    that NOAA's do.
  4. It displays charts a bit differently than VNS. It seems you have to
be zoomed a notch or two closer to get the same detail.
  5. I like  Passport Charts better, even if they are stupid expensive.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go back to VNS or ditch these guys all
together. Been using them for years but they've gone to a place that I
don't like. I've resisted moving to MaxSea because it uses a dongle,
even though it plays nice with Furuno's NavNet. I may have to rethink that.

Oh, and the guys at Bluewater Charts told me Maptech was going out of
business.

I too have given up on Nobeltec - I am not sure they know where they are
going with their customers - or maybe without them.

Be careful of Max Sea dongles - if lost they refuse to replace it and will
only sell you a whole new set of software.
