I am about to begin building intregal fuel tanks in my new Cascade 36
trawler that I am finishing. A commercial fisherman in the Seattle area
gave some suggestions but one thing he said that I am unsure of is the
location of the fuel outlet. He said to place the fuel outlet at the bottom
of the tank rather that a pickup located on the top, with a tube extending
to the bottom of the tank as is more normal.
I don't really see the advantage of a bottom location other then making is
easier to get fuel to the pump. The main argument against a bottom feed is
that if the fuel hose should break than the tank will empty into the bilge.
I would think the same thing would happen if a top pickup hose bursts due to
a siphoning action.
I am sure this has been covered before but I was unable to find anything in
the achieves. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron
