Is the GPSD module just for E3xx?

I'll try 3.9.1 release and provide results.

If the UHD roll-back doesn't work and you have the means to do so, you might try pulling the GPSDO off the board and testing it standalone. http://www.jackson-labs.com/assets/uploads/main/LC_XO_Manual.pdf  the pinout for the module is on page 6 of the PDF, so you should be able to measure the 10MHz out directly from the GPSDO, as well as monitor the NMEA output. At the very least, I would think it would help you determine if the GPSDO is the problem, or your B210 is the problem.

Is this situation where it was previously working and stopped, or is this the first time you've had the GPSDO in the B210?

  2. The UHD clock isn't getting set according to GPS time. It's my understanding that when a GPSDO module is detected, this should happen automatically.

I've tried this both with and without 6V power. Also as far as I can tell the GPSDO module has been installed correctly. On a cold boot of the B210 and on running the first app that loads the B210 firmware, LEDs D3 and D4 on the GPSDO module and LED100 on the B210 illuminate briefly. A few minutes after cold boot, the GPSDO module starts to blink LED D4 on for 1 second and off for 1 second, which I assume has to do with GPS acquisition.

On UHD 3.9.1, I see the previously reported behaviors: UHD Device time not getting set and 10 MHz Ref not locking, even when GPS reports lock.

In previous versions of UHD, the clock source and time source were
automatically set to the GPSDO references if a GPSDO module was detected.
This behavior was changed in UHD 3.9.0 where the references now need to be
explicitly set.  Use multi_usrp::set_clock_source() and
multi_usrp::set_time_source() APIs to set the references to "gpsdo".

Michael

automatically set to the GPSDO references if a GPSDO module was
detected.  This behavior was changed in UHD 3.9.0 where the references
now need to be explicitly set. Use multi_usrp::set_clock_source() and
multi_usrp::set_time_source() APIs to set the references to "gpsdo".

I'm not sure what device it supports. I just remember noticing
that it was missing in a previous UHD driver when I was trying to
trouble shoot RFNoC fosphor. I believe the 3.9.0 release did not
 have it.

If the UHD roll-back doesn't work and you have the
means to do so, you might try pulling the GPSDO off
the board and testing it standalone.
             http://www.jackson-labs.com/assets/uploads/main/LC_XO_Manual.pdf
the pinout for the module is on page 6 of the PDF,
so you should be able to measure the 10MHz out
directly from the GPSDO, as well as monitor the NMEA
output. At the very least, I would think it would
help you determine if the GPSDO is the problem, or
             your B210 is the problem.

                     apparent when running the query_gpsdo_sensors
                     utility:
                     1) USRP only sporadically locks to the GPSDO
10 MHz reference. On most runs of
query_gpsdo_sensors, it does not report lock.
                     2) The UHD clock isn't getting set according
to GPS time. It's my understanding that when
a GPSDO module is detected, this should
                     happen automatically.
I've tried this both with and without 6V
power. Also as far as I can tell the GPSDO
module has been installed correctly. On a
cold boot of the B210 and on running the
first app that loads the B210 firmware, LEDs

the B210 illuminate briefly. A few minutes
after cold boot, the GPSDO module starts
to blink LED D4 on for 1 second and off for 1
second, which I assume has to do with GPS

Is it a bug in UHD 3.9.1, then, that query_gpsdo_sensors does not call multi_usrp::set_clock_source("gpsdo") at all? I can see that it calls multi_usrp::set_time_source("gpsdo").

Did you also remove the feature that automatically sets the UHD Device time to the GPS time when a GPSDO is detected? If so, is there a general call that tells UHD to just deal with it and set GPS time, without having to write a routine that calls multi_usrp::set_time_*_pps() and checks that everything is aligned and all time registers are set properly?

If the UHD roll-back doesn't work and you have the means to do so, you might try pulling the GPSDO off the board and testing it standalone. http://www.jackson-labs.com/assets/uploads/main/LC_XO_Manual.pdf  the pinout for the module is on page 6 of the PDF, so you should be able to measure the 10MHz out directly from the GPSDO, as well as monitor the NMEA output. At the very least, I would think it would help you determine if the GPSDO is the problem, or your B210 is the problem.

Hi Sean,

Good catch.  Yes, query_gpsdo_sensors should call
multi_usrp::set_clock_source("gpsdo").  A bug has been filed to have that
fixed.

Yes, the feature automatically setting the time to GPS time was also
removed.  The time was getting set before GPS lock was obtained, so the
time was more often wrong than correct, and the device initialization was
completing before the next PPS edge, so the time was not actually set and
there were numerous issues with applications using timed commands or trying
to set the time.  So, yes, the time will need to be explicitly set using
multi_usrp::set_time_next_pps().  We recommend polling on
multi_usrp::get_last_time_pps() to wait for the PPS edge and then sleeping
200 ms before calling that line to allow the GPRMC message to propagate to
the host.

I do agree that a single API call to set the sources and synchronize the
time to the GPSDO would be convenient.  I will pass the suggestion along to
R&D.

Regards,
Michael
