I am looking for suggestions on a good quality paint coating, for roll

and tip.

We've had great success with Interlux Brightside and Toplac.  While we
haven't done exterior cabin surfaces with this paint we've used it on
our window frames, the main cabin door that we just stripped and
repainted, our aft cabin doors, and the entire aft head interior. Toplac
applies a little smoother than Brightside, but Brightside is a tougher
paint. Interlux's website recommends Brightside for applications where
wear is a possibility.  In all cases we used the roller-brush tipping
method.  A friend with a sailboat across from ours repainted his cabin
exterior last summer.  He used Brightside but sprayed it on.  It came
out great.  If we someday repaint the exterior of our boat I would at
this point be tempted to use the sprayed-on Brightside method as opposed
to the roller-tip method.

Not to hijack the discussion, but I have a alum. casting on my mast (43 hatt
dc) I've repainted the wood part and would like to repaint the casting with
the same interlux paint  (one part). The casting is stripped and glass
beaded, any sugestions as to primer under the paint? Thanks Bill

I've had great luck with Awlgrip's 545 Epoxy Primer. It's two-part, but easy
to use, and it provides a really solid foundation for one-part or two-part
paints.  Few chandleries carry it, though. I've always had to buy mine from
an authorized Awlgrip center (my boat yard.)

While reading this thread I noticed an ad on TV for an applicator which has little bristles. They are in all hardware stores and come in different sizes and shapes. They seem to usually have a red plastic body and bristles about 1/8" long set at a slight angle. Has anyone ever tried using one of these to apply boat paint? If it worked did it eliminate the roll and tip and the necessity for two people working together?
Thanks
