Thanks, Phil.
I'm surprised and sorry to hear that there's not much gear-specific info on
that site. Because we have a lot of identical equipment aboard, such as
Lugger, Sutton, Kabola, etc. I'm really interested in learning from the
experiences of others with operational and maintenance issues. For instance, our
4-year-old Lugger LP668D just turned over 5000 hours, and according to Lugger,
it's a good time to check certain things. Some of these things are relatively
expensive to do, and in my experience with other engines we didn't do those
things until we had at least twice that many hours. So knowing the time between
failures on other installations would be nice to know.
Another benefit to all would be where to get the best prices on replacement
parts. Some time ago I did a lot of legwork (okay, keyboard work) to find
out where to get Lugger (John Deere models) parts for less. I found a great
source and posted the result on T&T. As you may know, the Lugger folks change
out some of the JD parts, replacing them with their own, so I also wanted to
get some info on which Lugger dealer would be willing to shave some prices, but
no one from T&T responded. Because Nordhavn uses so many Lugger engines, as
well as Northern Lights gensets, I'd think some people on the Nordhavn group
must have the answer, and might be happy to know the results of my efforts
as well. I understand the need for a group to exclude non-members from
posting, but they could allow us to read what they post. I'm sure that folks like
yourself, and John Ford, who helped me with my paravane questions some time
ago, could pick up on anything helpful posted here and pass it on to the
Nordhavn owners if appropriate.
Regards,
John

I posted the agent list suggestion on the Nordhavn Owner's site only
because they have a files section to conveniently store and add to
the list. PUP has no such files section. Almost all of the posts I
submit go to both the PUP and the Nordhavn Owner's list, which are my
two favorite web sites, although I am a member of Trawler World
also. Most of the posts on the owner's site are "boat specific": In
other words: :Have any other N46 owners had a specific problem with
their boat and what did you do to fix it?" In the future, I will
make an effort to cross post any subjects which come up on the
Owner's site that would also be of interest to the PUP.
