Bob,
My sprint aircard cost me $99 and costs $60 per month plus taxes for
unlimited use. It plugs into the USB port on my laptop

Subject: T&T: Aircards-More Info please
Our internet service at home is
via dial-up and we are satisfied. Our
laptops can access the internet when we
are in hot-spots, e.g. libraries, some
marinas, etc. We can also dial our ISP
via phone when away from home if the
ISP has a local or toll free phone number
from that area. Exactly what are
aircards? How does one pay for their service,
i.e. are charges per minute or a
single up-front charge when purchased ?

As Jeff has argued, and I agree, you are almost certainly better off
with a teathered smartphone than an aircard. For instance, if you
use a GSM Treo, you can activate it with T-Mobile on a thirty dollar
a month voice plan. Unlimited data is fifteen dollars a month on top
of that. The computer/phone connection can be elegantly handled by
PDANet (www.junefabrics.com). That gives you a phone and unlimited
data (both on your laptop and for mobile web browsing, which, once
you have tried it, will quickly become indispensible).
