I vaguely remember reading something about Mexico (?) looking at building an
overland transit for yachts and the like. Anyone else know about this ? It
would be a real economic boon for that area, I would think, and given Mexico's
interest in increasing tourism it would seem to be a good idea.

There is presently under construction bid a 3rd lane of travel for the
Panama Canal that is intended to accommodate 1200' ships.

When it is complete the current 2 lanes will be dedicated to smaller
vessels.  I have not been able to find a recent projected completion date.
