We have noticed, judging from the signs in southeastern Florida, that the
manatees seem to come out on weekends.

there is a lot of hypocrisy about the manatee zones... without getting into
what kind of neighborhood they're in, many of them are there to restrict
speed in crowded sections with bulkhead on each side. there is one section
in Hollywood FL which is unrestricted, narrow with bulkhead.  it takes very
little traffic for wakes to bounce on and off and make for a very rough
ride.

they should just restrict those sections on weekend and call it what it
is... a safety zone ...or whatever.. not a manatee zone.

the other ridiculous thing in Ft Lauderdale is the 15" maximum wake ...  how
the heck do you measure that!!!  and to top it off,you have to guess how the
local cops will interpret "slow speed minimum wake"  a 50 footer at 7kts
throws minimum wake... once i had a broward sherif waving at me to slow
down... he was looking at the larger wake from his 25' center console!

Gee, I think it's a great concept.  In my 9' Whaler with 10hp, I can get up
on plane and go somewhere (at 14 kts).  The "Fat Boy" boats have to crawl
along at 5 kts.  there is some justice in the world!
