How to fry an inverter in one easy step

I have two Victron Phoenix 3000/12 120 inverters hooked up as master and
slave units. Accidentally I turned on a separate 100A battery charger
powered by the inverter. I know it is not possible to charge the batteries
using the batteries. Could this be the cause of the slave unit going TU? I
would have thought they would have some fail safe mechanism to prevent this
sort of thing. Does anyone know what causes inverter failures and how to
avoid them? The unit is 10 years old but rarely used, Victron says they do
not have parts and if I want to re-establish the original capacity then I
must replace both.

Victron has this business model of not stocking/supplying parts for any
inverters out of warranty.  Your best bet is to find a used one e.g.
someone else that lost one of two and had to replace both.  Master and
salve is only a program setting both units are the same.  The only issue is
whether or not the hardware capability is compatible to set up as a bus and
the firmware can be matched or updated.  Check on e-bay, Wards Bros.
Electric in Lauderdale are the Victron warranty service/screening center.
Go on line and call all the listed distributor/installers  for used mulits.
Good luck the functions are great but support is terrible being in Holland
5 hrs away and with a language attitude problem.
