TWL: searching for a unique "Sofa-Couch"

During my search for a 34 Mainship last year, I came across one that had a
unique "Sofa-Couch" - instead of a "hard frame" that folds out, it was all
"soft". 3 upholstered foam cushions were connected together - stacked 3 high
"accordion-style", such that one could simply pull the top cushion out and
forward to the floor - and the middle cushion followed.

The result was 3 foam cushions laying directly on the floor (all held
together by the "accordion-seams") (Note it was actually 2 cushions wide).
Almost a regular size mattress. The advantages appeared to be...

No hard foldout bars under the middle of the mattress - felt very

comfortable.

Whole sleeper-couch is very lightweight - easy to quickly stand it on its

back (when it is in its "couch configuration") - for access to the engine
compartment.

Attractive - it had that "Soft Corduroy" look - also felt very comfortable

as a couch!

I have finally found one of these at "Cost-Plus" in Michigan - but it is too
wide. I still don't know the actual name for this a unique "Sofa-Couch" -
and have been unable to locate any on the Web.

Any help or ideas will be appreciated,

Jim Hock

We have used this type of fold out bed on two different boats for about
8 years. The couches you describe are sometimes found at Pier 1 or Cost
Plus stores. They aren't particularly cheap, but they work. They also
are not for six-footers to sleep on, but are adequate for shorter
people. The neat thing is you can pick them up with one hand to get at
hatches, vacuum under them, etc. Recently, they seem to have become
scarce. Our usual stores no longer carry them. So we're searching too.
