10/21-10AM- While walking by the west end of the blind-marsh looking
for the NELSONS , we heard a brief and quiet AM. BITTERN voice. Turning
,we saw the up-stretched neck and watched with pleasure and awe. I
called over another birder who was searching for a VESPER near the
'privy'. We watched and suddenly it disappeared. Wanting to photograph,
he briefly played its calls on a birdpod and it soon emerged. What I am
especially curious about is: it did not appear to be at all concerned
re: the taped reproduction. If anything it seemed more 'comfortable',
moving around the backside of a small pool, poking the mud for food and
gradually coming closer to us. Finally it stepped out onto a large rock
into full, exposed view. We must have watched for ten-fifteen minutes.
( Then we went across the road a had some nice views of the NELSONS.
