Last month I wondered how MotorBoating found its way to my mail forwarding
service. Georgs and Susan checked and it wasn't Passage Maker or Power
Cruising. This month I also got Power and Motor Yacht along with
MotorBoating.
I called Power and Motor Yacht's subscription department and thanked them
for sending me the free magazine, but since I had to have all my mail
forwarded to me, sometimes in exotic places, my paying $20 to get a free
magazine was a decision I'd like to make. The lady was very nice,
understood my problem, and said she would cancel the free subscription
immediately.
My next call was to MotorBoating. We had the same discussion, but the lady
said my "subscription" originated from an "agency order". I asked what that
was and she said it might have come from something I ordered on the
internet. She said she would look up who the "agency" was and get back to
me. She said the agency was DC Graphics, "Sherry Magazine Service", but
they didn't have a phone number. I reiterated, I simply wanted the
unsolicited subscription to stop. She said she couldn't stop the
subscription, even though it was their magazine, but she could suspend it
indefinitely. She then gave me the address of DC Graphics which was at 1016
Shadowstone Drive, Lancaster, PA., 17603.
My feeling is it's likely to take some amount of effort to keep your
cruising mailbox clean. In the old days one could take unsolicited junk
mail, wrap it around a brick, and send it to the governor of Connecticut
"postage due". I guess I'm really becoming a conformist in my old age...
