TWL: Wireless Connection to Internet

The simplest (and cost effective?) means of connecting a lap top to the
wireless phone service provider seems to be a Telus Monarch 130C.  It is a
PCMCIA card-type.  I am awaiting further details from the manufacturer.
Has anyone had experience with this self contained modem/antenna that
apparently plugs into a lap top's slot and can function without  messing
around with cables to a cell phone?  Or any other make?

Thanks for any input you might be able to provide!

For about the last year, I have subscribed to WISP (Wireless Internet
Solutions Providers) ( bewireless.com) using a Uniden wireless modem
plugged into my PCMCIA laptop- port.

In specific locations with service, it works very well. But check out their
web site for coverage as it is fairly limited.

Gordon...

I personally use the InfraRed port on my laptop to the InfraRed on my Nokia
8210. It works great actually (with my PalmPilot too! =} ), but is limited
by the 9600bps max for GSM here in Europe (and uh, everywhere I think). Good
for email, bearable for browsing, but you don't want to download anything
meaty with it (unless you have a much better service plan than moi)

One thing - most cellular service providers need you to have data/fax
services (usually at an additional cost) turned on on your service plan in
order to make "modem calls" work. This is usually at additional cost.

good luck, be glad to hear how it goes with the PCMCIA card,
ciao,
Daryl.
