That depends on your definition of "doable."
If you are willing to plan around tides, nine feet can be carried from
Mile 0 in Portsmouth, VA to mile 1,115 in Biscayne Bay. South of that, a
bit less than six feet can be carried, with impeccable timing.
If you hit the wrong stretch at low tide in certain places, you'll be
lucky to get through in a center console drawing two feet.
Seven feet can be carried on the west coast of FL. The remainder of the
gulf portion all the way to Port Isabel, TX can carry nine feet.
We have done every last mile, other than south of Biscayne which our
draft of 6' does not permit. The sections through Georgia and SC require
advance planning and travel with the tides. We avoid those states and go
around on the outside unless wx makes it unavoidable. We once spent
nearly a week at anchor waiting for there to be enough water during
daylight hours to make it to the next stop.
