Engine room flooring

Hello all,

I am looking to put a flooring surface in my engine room. I tried some

"garage floor" foam squares but they tend to move about.  I looked at
Dri-Dek but after kneeling on it for 2 minutes, don't think it will work.
So, I am asking the wisdom of T&T.  The current floor is the fiberglass hull
which has been painted.

Any good ideas?

Henry,
I'm using the redish food prep antifatgue mats 3'X 3'pieces that anc snap
together.  It has the holes and is advertized resistant to oils from Sam's
or Costco.  No uv resistance but hey the sun never shines in my engine room.
They migrate a little but don't slip under my feet and are soft to kneel on.

Our engine room floor as well as the lazarette and commissary floor all
had lonfloor vinyl applied. The material in the engine room was getting
pretty shabby, a friend of mine has access to cutoff pieces of lonfloor
(by lonseal) in the silver diamond plate pattern, the OEM was coin.
Other than the diamond plate being not as easy on the knees as the coin,
it makes a good looking job, and the material is very heavy and durable.
I have a few of the foam squares I use as pads where I need them. The
lazarette piece is about 14' x 4' and was tedious to pattern, but that's
the way to fit it. I used craft paper. I used vinyl adhesive to apply
it, but if I had it to do again, I'd use contact cement in the engine
room as the surface is not as flat and I ended up with some places where
the flooring didn't bond. I prepped the floor surface with a Fein
multimaster rasp tool, so no paint remained. I used silver silicone
along the edges to seal. There are some areas where the silicone has
pulled away from the painted surface, I believe I did not do a thorough
enough degreasing prior to applying the silicone.

Neither floor has marked nor gouged despite some very hard use. Heavy
storage bins slid across the surface, dive tanks, etc. If you can find
the material, it is an excellent application for hard use and harsh
environment in an ER or as in our laz.
