Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes

Spring has come to Michigan's Copper Country (Lake Superior)! On the
first day of spring we only got about an inch of snow, so summer cannot
be tooooooooo far away! We still have snow on the ground and the banks
along the road are still higher than the cars in some areas, but much has
melted.

Well in Duluth, MN, the CG ice breaker has started breaking paths through
the frozen harbor, but nothing is moving yet, mostly due to the down
economy. In years earlier, ships usually would be trying to get a head
start on the season. Not this year. But the big lake is relatively open,
thanks to southwesterly winds. We saw a robin yesterday, so spring must
be coming. We got an inch of fresh snow yesterday also.

On the Upper Mississippi (St. Paul, MN), the first line tow arrived
last week, that means the locks below us are open and ready for
boaters. Unfortunately with the high water, we can't reach our dock
right this minute. We're leaving to LOOP this fall, so just thought
I'd toss my 2 cents in and greet you "northern" boaters. I know the
drill for this latitude, but sure am looking forward to on the east
coast of Florida a year from now.
