Hi all,
Here’s a VNA for checking antennas etc beyond MFJ’s analyzer…and it’s cheaper.
It’s a two port VNA with a frequency range of 137MHz to 3.5GHz for about $210.
…It plugs directly into USB for power, and uses a computer for display.

Do you know of other VNAs options to look at…below the $3,000 and up models?

Just a few thoughts(without too much thought):
I don’t see any advantage in sending money now. I don’t understand the difference in the various levels of backing. More money doesn’t appear to get you an earlier delivery… a couple do get you a calibration kit — build it yourself. Looking at the calibration kits, you can easily duplicate what they did with some PC board mount SMA connectors and a couple of chip resistors.
Once you have the unit, you must build your own supply. There was sort of a mention of an acrylic case, but no definite availability.
Once you have it ready to use,, you have to haul some sort of a computer out to the field, up the tower, or wherever you are going to use it.
The Rig Expert series of analyzer, while more expensive, is more convenient and does the same thing in one package. No computer needed. Granted, the Rig Expert does not cover the same frequency range.
I have thought about getting something like this, but I don’t have too much use for an antenna analyzer above 432. I use common directional couplers, sig gen and spectrum analyzer the few times I have wanted to look at an antenna above 432.
