Re: T&T: Fluctuating fuel pressure question

Greg,
Coming up the NJICW my stb. engine surged a little at the start (after about
45 min), settled down and ran fine for 10 hrs,  and then died from fuel
starvation soon after I set the anchor.

The generator didn't want to start.

I turned the Walbro fuel pump on and I soon had an accumlation of diesel on
top of the fuel tank.

I finally tracked it down to a pinhole leak in the nylon tube which connects
the filter to the pressure gauge.
The quick fix was to insert a nylon plug in the 'T' in place of the pressure
take-off. Fuel pump pressurized the system fine and all engines started and
ran.

I would not have suspected the pressure pickup hose except that the Walbro
forced diesel up the tube to the pinhole where it became obvious that there
was a problem. Even at that I had to search for the source. (pinhole caused
by friction between loops of the tubing).

HTH

p.s.  Atlantic Highlands marina is NOT the place to wait out N-NE winds. We
have been taking Dramine for 2 days. Last night 25-30 mph on the beam in the
slip.

We're out of here today!

Subject: T&T: Fluctuating fuel pressure question

Question: What likely would cause this fluctuation... fuel pump,
regulator, injector control module. other? Each of these parts are
too pricey to start a trial and error process.
