Does anyone have a update as to the status of the I-68 form for 2003 now
that U.S. Customs & U.S. Immigration are no longer affiliated and is now a
part of the Dept. of Homeland Security?
I queried a Customs agent a month or so ago and he was unsure as to what was
going to happen for 2003. His suggestion was to "wait and see" before
spending money needlessly to renew. Thought someone might have some current
info.

Immigration officials in our area (Bluewater
Bridge-Port Huron, Mich) are advising boaters to
obtain a NEXUS card. These are same cards that are
issued to frequent users of the bridge so they can use
the higher speed inspection booths on both sides of
the bridge.
There is an application that must be completed, and a
background check by both Canada and US.
Card cost is $50 for each person. Good for 5 years.
They take your picture when card is issued.
This is versus the $16 per person cost of the one year
I-68 form. With the I-68 you also had to provide three
suitable sized photos of yourself.
Still not completely sure how either of these ID forms
will actually be received when you do arrive back into
USA by boat. There are rumors that you will have to
report to an established inspection location and be
personnally inspected anyway. So not real sure what
the advantages of either form will be.
Keep me informed if you hear any other information on
this issue. I will do likewise.
