Jeff,
Where and how do you hook up the compressor? Still on Lake Champlain? We have been lurking in the 1000 Islands since mid-July.

At the city water / shore water connection. Here is what they look like:

You can also buy these with a compressor coupler rather than a bicycle pump
end.

I have a boat neighbor who uses a paint pot that he fills with
antifreeze and uses it between the compressor and the water inlet to
feed antifreeze or vodka into the system. He raves about how easy this
makes the process. They are frequently on sale.

While we are on this subject any recommendations for a small quiet
portable air compressor?

I wrap some electrical tape around the air sprayer/controller thinghy to
form a seal (sort of) with the cold and hot water outlets on the hot water
heater. Then I open up each faucet all through the boat and blow them out.
It goes faster with two people.

On our previous boat, I had a small compressor that had quick disconnect fittings installed. I made up a small section of hose that had a disconnect fitting on one end and a grey male fitting on the other end that matched up with the grey plumbing pipe that ran throughout my boat. I would disconnect the water line where it exited the pressure pump and attach the hose makeup. I then made sure the compressor regulator was set on 40PSI, and would just go around opening all valves until air was blowing out each one. Be sure to turn off the water heater and drain it and to remove all aerators from the faucets as well as hoses, shower sprayers etc. I also made up a bypass connection for the W/H. I did not have an ice maker.
At the same time, I would be draining the water tank or pumping it out. Your choice. Turn on the pump to be sure to clear the inlet line to that. I also made up another short inlet side line which I would then connect to the inlet side of the pump and shove the other end into a handle of vodka. Turn on the pump and pump all the vodka into the water lines. If I ran out of vodka before I got any out of the faucets, then I would repeat the blowing out step.
Whew! That sounds like a chore. Sure glad I don't have to do that any more.
