flybridges...

our previous boat had a flybridge.
it was nice to run from up there, but the
added systems complexity was a major
and continuing source of aggravation

plus, coming from a long line of skin
cancer patients, we were never out from
under the bimini, so minimal "convertable
top down" effect

so for new boat we decided that the openness
was the part we really liked, so we made
sure the deck house and especially the
helm area open up expansively instead
of having a flybridge.

we call it "the flybridge without the flys"

"Rearrange the compromises and see if you
like this one better."

cheers,

The correct term for a navigating position above the Wheelhouse is the
Monkey Island, The Flying Bridge is that raised gangway that runs fore and
aft on a tanker to enable the crew to move about when sha is loaded and the
decks are awash.  The raised athwartships bridge on the poop is the docking
bridge.  Does anyone know where the term Monkey Island comes from, the term
Flybridge seems to be confined to the Tupperware.
