Poor babies. We've had 25 below ALL week. It hasn't been above zero since
Monday and we aint' talking about wind chill, but the real deal. Just
north of here actual temps have been 40 below. Makes for hard water. Ahh,
for the good old days of global warming. A harbor tug poked a hole in its
hull breaking ice for ships this week. Divers had to use a chain saw to
cut a slab of ice out so they could go in yesterday and patch the hole.
The last of the Mochicans are coming into port for winter layup today --
two final 1,000 footers are straggling in. The Coast Guard has an
icebreaker out today banging a way through the ice so they can reach
their winter berths. Hopefully, neither of them will poke a hole in its
hull like one did last year and sat on the bottom for a couple of weeks.

From now until the end of March, there will be no more interlake travel

on the upper Great Lakes. The locks at Ste. St. Marie closed for the
season yesterday.
