This morning at Shirelys Bay, Ottawa there were many shorebirds as was
reported yesterday by Mark Gawn. I was there from 8:30 to 9:15 with good
visibility and no rain. Highlights were a Marbled Godwit and a juvenile
Red-necked Phalarope. Also present were Black-bellied (2) and Semi-palmate
Plover (2), White-rumped (50) and Pectoral (20) Sandpipers, Dunlin and
Semipalmated Sandpipers. Nice flock of Yellow-rumped Warbler in the carex
along the waterfront.
Directions to Shirley¹s Bay
The Shirley¹s Bay parking lot and boat launch is
at the north end of Rifle Road, which is on the north side of Carling
Avenue
west of Moodie Drive. Shirley's Bay causeway is
on Department of National Defence property, and there is often shooting
going
on at the Connaught Firing Range. Permission to walk on the causeway must

Hi all. I am emailing for Bob Cermak who is presently at Shirley's Bay where he is observing one Red-Phalarope and 2 Hudsonian Godwits. The Marbled Godwit, observed by Brian earlier this morning, has not been seen again. Good luck to anyone trying for these rare birds. Langis Sirois, Ottawa

HI:
There was only one godwit present early this morning. I am no expert on godwits but I checked everything I could and came to Marbled.

Thanks Brian,
Things are always changing when the shorebirds are moving through - here one hour (or minute!) then gone the next! I was thrilled to be able to get out & see the Red Phalarope & 31 (!!!) Hudsonian Godwits from 1 - 2:30 PM today ( lucky day off work! ). A Merlin was stirring things up, but the shorebird show was fabulous - 13 spp. (so far) collectively reported from Shirley's Bay in the past 2 days!
Cheers & enjoy the season,
Chris
