Ted,
All distances are given from Sea Buoy to Sea Buoy unless otherwise noted.
Panama City to Clearwater -199 nautical miles-direct, 224 via Steinhatchee.
Clearwater to Ft. Myers (San Carlos Bay) - 118 n.m.
Ft. Myers to Key West - 106 n.m
Key West to Miami - 150 statute miles
Ft. Myers is a nice stop but considerably out of the way since it is a fair
piece up the Caloosahatchee River.  Ft. Myers Beach, Boca Grande or Naples are
all great stops and not far out of the way.
There is no reason to go from Ft. Myers to Key West, unless you want to.  You
can run to Marathon or Islamorada and shave many miles off the trip. Of
course, if the purpose is to enjoy the travel, by all means, head to Key West
and enjoy the many delightful anchorages as you follow the Keys to Miami.
