We're currently implementing CollectionSpace at the Boston Athenaeum. We're working on standardizing our processes for ingesting images into CollectionSpace and we've got a quick question.

I saw that CollectionSpace allows for upload of TIFFs, JPGs, and PNGs. We're currently deciding between JPGs and PNGs as our standard filetype. Is there any particular difference in the way that CollectionSpace handles either of those filetypes? For example, irrespective of file size, is the software more reliable or faster with one or the other? Are there any other reasons to choose one over the other in regard to CollectionSpace's functionality?

Derek,

Another answer in from the engineering team - CSpace creates JPG derivatives of uploaded media, so it might be minimally​ faster at processing uploaded JPG blobs than PNGs. You'd be unlikely to notice a difference unless you were uploading a huge number of images (which I know you all might be!).
