These directions stop short on Weed Ave, but if you kee going down Weed Ave toward Long Island Sound, you will see the entrance to Cove Island Park.  The wildlife sanctuary is at the SW corner of the park, south of the baseball diamonds you can see if you zoom in on this map.  Link includes generic directions from Hartford.  You can plug in your home address if you want individualized directions.  Great birding spot.
