Roger,
Don't think that's it.  The plumbers teflon tape has no adhesive on one side.
I guess you could use some kind of spray adhesive but I don't know that it
would stick to the teflon!  Plus, plumbers teflon tape is only mils
thick...don't think it would be appropriate for the task.

After this subject came up, I did some digging in the mcmaster.com
web site under the topic of "tape". They have many pages and
varieties. Tape made from almost any kind of plastic and not so
plastic stuff, with and without adhesive. To put it bluntly they
carry more kinds of tape than I ever dreamed of. I suppose there must
be things they don't carry. My imagination may not encompass all the
possibilities.

BTW they have a folding ruler of about 9 feet in length that would
make a great fuel tank dipstick. And some plastic material kinds of
ruler tapes that you could stick up next to fuel tank sight gauges,
with adhesive on the back.

Check www.leevalley.com . Their part# 25U04.01 is a slippery UHMW
adhesive-backed tape useful for, among others things, smooth sliding
drawers.  1" x 18 ft $11.50 CDN.
