Key comment, that no one told me before I got it.
You can not plug the in Command Mic when the
radio is powered up.
How did you determine this? I can't see any warnings in either the
M502 or M602 manuals to that effect (I don't have either radio
(yet!),
so can't try it).

Their is a separate manual for the H127 command mic, available
from their website. I did not see any notice of this in the manual
either.
My dealer told me, and then I called Icom to confirm this.
Which they did. It has to do with the handshake between the
mic and the radio.
also it does not look like the mic does not support any of
the unique M602 functions, hailing, fog horn etc.

If I was me, I'd put one radio in each location, in order to have
DSC
capability at both locations (but you may have a good reason to do
it
your way.)

I do most of my operations from the pilothouse and almost
always have two radios on 16 and 9 or 13 or whatever.
So I thought I would keep the radios concentrated where
I am and also out of the weather, and easy theft location.
Also I did not know I had to turn one off before using it.
I now usually just bring a Icom M88 handheld up there for
harbor / dock operations, the key time I use the flybridge.
