<scott - " Drilled primary Anchor to accept retaining pin for bow pulpit">
Not to sure that I'd drill any hole in my anchor. I have seen CQR, Delta's
and just about all other types with bent shanks due to side loading in bad
weather. The manufacturer of some provides holes for pinning purposes...no
problem using them.
Drilling a 1" hole....hmmmmmmmm. OTOH perhaps you drilled it in an area that
doesn't ever get loaded. We always use a rope on ours even tho we have a pin
that fits thru the factory hole in our Delta.
Just a thought to keep you from sleeping too soundly in that 35 kts wind
shift in the anchorage ;-)
In my former life on those wind powered boats we always removed the anchor
before heading offshore. Keeping the front of the boat clean for big waves
to pass thru, over and around was always in my best interest ;-)
As always YMMV....

Well, nice thing is it's my anchor and I get to drill it if I think it needs
to be drilled. If I blow down on SwanSong during that wind change I'll be
right there to write you a check for repairs and buy you a cold one.
(Unlike the sailboat FLASH that's hit me twice in my marina).
I appreciate the feedback, one thing to consider is so few people contribute
to forums like this because it seems if your willing to publicize your
thoughts and ideas there is always someone to debate them and insinuate your
stupid. Dave has immense credibility because of his experience (which I
lack). Also Dave does a good job of sharing his perspective without making
the other party feel attacked. Email is a challenging forum for this kind
of exchange because it's so easy to misread a comment and overreact to it.
Perhaps if I'd posted a picture of the anchor along with the posting it
would have been more valuable? Maybe I'll find a place to put a picture.
Anyway, I do appreciate the feedback, I also believe drilling the anchor was
the right thing to do, but I'm sure I'll hear for a week what a dumb ass I
am :)
Thanks!

Oh, PS, if that anchor bites well enough in the bottom to bend the shank
where I drilled it, I'm going to buy stock in the company because it's one
hell of an anchor! Oh wait, I think they went out of business? Uh oh!

Scott,
Are you still organizing a get-together in Neah Bay at the end of
the month for Northwest boats going south? Might be nice to have an
informal get together of passagemakers there, whether we are going
south or not.

Scott:
I'm delivering Bob Klein's Selene 53 "Kasekuchen" down the coast, leaving
from Gig Harbor sometime around the 5th of September (weather permitting).
If you guys are headed down in that time frame, let me know. Perhaps we can
just touch base on the trip down.
Best Regards,
Capt. Mark Tilden

Hi Mark,
Current plan is to depart Neah Bay on Aug 30 or there abouts. Of course
it's weather permitting. We plan to go at a leisurely pace, so perhaps our
paths will cross! Thanks for the note, we will keep our eyes out for you!
Scott
