I have 2000 hours on our transmission and oil cooler. Both are
cupro-nickel. I have never had any problems with corrosion or eating
through zincs quickly. I just pulled the transmission cooler and it
looks brand new.
Any ideas on the life span and when they should be changed? Thanks in advance.

According to Bob Smith at American Diesel, cupronickel exchangers should be
replaced as follows. He was referring to Lehmans, but I don't see why it
would matter about brand of engine.
Transmission cooler at 2000 hrs.
Oil cooler at 2700 hrs.

It's always better to be on shore wishing you were out there, than out there
wishing you were on shore.

Thanks to all responded to our original question.
I just finished installing 2 new coolers. For about $100.00 each the
decision became real easy. And the down side, if I didn't and there
was a failure, many boat units.
