Subject: Hello All

At the urging of Georgs, I am introducing myself to the list.  Ruth and I

keep our boat in Sandusky, OH, although our home port is Akron, OH.  We use
our 1986 Bayliner 32 MY extensively for cruising and plan to circumnavigate
the eastern US next fall after retirement.  We would be interested in
hearing from any of you who have done that trip, especially from the lady's
point of view for Ruth.  She has agreed to make the trip once, I'm hoping
for more than once.

We have been boating for more than a quarter of a century.  (Somehow that

sounds longer than saying over 25 years.)  We have always owned power
boats, but have chartered sail in Florida, Chesapeake and the Cape Cod
area.  We also chartered a 36' trawler in the Keys.  I hope that our 32 MY
will qualify as a trawler for this list.

The boat has twin diesels and cruises at 15 mph +/- depending on sea

conditions.  At that speed we burn just under 8 gph total.  With 200 gal
capacity, we have a fair range.  We have cruised this boat to Buffalo and
back, to Lake St Clair and points north as far as Port Sanilac, MI.  With
prior boats we have cruised Lake Erie, the North Channel, Charlevoix,
Chesapeake Bay and several inland lakes and rivers.

I have been a member of the Akron Power Squadron since 1976 and have

lectured extensively in the public course as well as taking many courses.
Ruth is a good navigator and can run the boat.  Doesn't like to dock, but
is capable of doing it, if necessary.  We also belong to the GLCC, Akron
Cruising Club and Harbor Bay Yacht Club.  We would enjoy hearing from any
of you.  If you see us on the water, please say hello!

Bill & Ruth,

Welcome.  My observations thus far are, while it seems that the majority
of the listees have boats that are what are more typically thought of as
trawler yachts, there are participants on the list with various types
and styles of power cruisers and a few sailboats (monohulls and
multihulls).  We have one couple that took a wrecked 46' sailboat and
rebuilt it as a trawler (neat boat); some folks that are in the process
of custom building trawlers or troller-style cruisers - some in
commercial shops and some in their back yards; and a father/son team
each building their own power multihull fishing vessels in Florida.  We
have at least one Chris Craft woody motoryacht from an earlier era and a
modern 40-something-foot Viking motoryacht.

That's just an off the top of my head overview. I'm sure your cruiser
fits in there too. By the way, I may have just missed it but was the
name of your boat in your post?

Regards,
