Our plan

is to be ready to head south by Oct 1st.

I recommend that you you do not go
south of San Diego until after Nov. 1st because of the potential for
hurricanes.  Then you will be right in the middle of the estimated 200 boats
going south with the Baja Ha Ha.  Last year there were over 160 going down, a
record number.  This year it is even bigger and they had to cut it off at 200.
When in La Paz, stop by Marina CostaBaja and say hello.

You guys worry too much about hurricanes. If you're never in the hurricane
zone during hurricane season, you'll have six months out of the year that
you can't be there. Not to mention that hurricanes can pop up before and
after the season... they don't use calendars. Remember that hurricane
distribution is like a bell curve... they are most likely centered around
September 1st., and less likely at the other ends. But hey... you could get
a thunderstorm, waterspout or tornado any time. Do you not cruise because
you worry about those? Those of us who live and boat in the hurricane zone
just keep out eye on the forecasts, and act appropriately if one pops up and
heads our way. Just a fact of life for us. Something to pre-prepare for.

Keith

Why do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same
tune? Why did you just try singing these two songs?

Keith mused:  You guys worry too much about hurricanes.

Scott replies:  I suspect I'm not alone in that my restrictions on being in
the region is driven by my insurance policy rather than any concern I have.
Having grown up in Ft. Walton Beach FL I too have seen my fair share of
hurricanes.  Since our coverage will restrict us from being there I will
simply arrange my cruising to accommodate.  Besides, it's damn hot that time
of year, while the PNW and New England are delightful alternatives  :)
