In regards to the 2-part marine paint mentioned in your post, here are some
comments after reading the website for that product from a boater
friend/engineer who spent his/her life in the coatings business with
clients in Fortune 100 companies:
"After reading this marketing blurb I see no link to specific specs or
technical testing data to support this claim if superiority.
If the coating is truly superior i would think they would be boasting some
sort of warranty specifics that exceed market standard.
This is a 2 component polyurethane that expresses no claim to superior
hardness, adhesion, scratch resistance, gloss or color retention. or ease
of application. They offer no claim as to why this coating is superior.
The problem with coatings is that the manufacturer always has a large
gaping hole in their realm of responsibility with regard to coating
failure: surface prep, application atmosphere, application equipment,
method of application etc.....
If this is truly an advanced improvement to existing polyurethane coatings
this company should expound on its virtues rather than make generalized
summary statements."
