08/19/14 - North Windham, Windham Airport -- evening; 200 or so Common
Nighthawks feeding on an insect hatch at the west end of the runway.
When I left around 7 PM, the flock had shifted over the nearby strip
malls and Walmart. (Joining in were several hundred swallows and 4
Ring-billed Gulls.)

08/19/14 - Milford, Milford Point -- 9:40 to 11:00 AM; WHITE-WINGED
SCOTER, 9 species shorebirds including 1 RED KNOT.

08/19/14 - Branford, Branford Supply Ponds -- Orange-crowned Warbler,
Winter Wrens.

08/19/14 - Guilford, Long Cove by Sachem's Head Rd -- 5:20 PM;
Tricolored Heron hunting again in the shallow waters at the top of the
cove.

08/19/14 - Meriden yard -- While planting late perennials in a front
bed this afternoon, 200 to 300 chimney swifts and 1 Common Nighthawk
in their midst passed over my house.  Most swifts I've ever seen.  I
don't often see Mighthawks either.

08/18/14 - Hartford, Riverside Park Pond - 1 imm. LITTLE BLUE HERON,
11 GREAT EGRET.

-- 9:30 AM; 3 Little Blue Herons, one adult and two white juveniles.
South Wilton, Chipmunk Lane (off Kent Road) -- 10:00 AM; Adult male
Hooded Warbler feeding in the dense undergrowth where a house once
stood.

Tricolor/Little Blue Heron hybrid.

08/18/14 - Fairfield, Hoyden's Hill Open Space -- A Philadelphia Vireo
was hanging upside down, feeding upon something under a leaf,  about
8' in front of me and only 9' above ground this morning. It was the
best look which I have ever had at one and my camera was hanging
around my neck, but I forgot I had it with me.

Bobolinks, 1 Cliff Swallow.  (And lots and lots of other stuff, of

10:15 AM; RED BREASTED NUTHATCH, 2 COMMON RAVEN.

streaming over the house, from the east.

08/18/14 - Seymour -- one Common Nighthawk seen cruising down the
Naugatuck River Valley about 7:48 PM.

08/18/14 - Windsor Locks, yard -- 7:14 PM; had my first Common
Nighthawk of the season.

08/18/14 - Harwinton yard -- 6 Common Nighthawk going due south.

08/18/14 - Farmington -- Around 8 PM Monday there were close to two
dozen Common Nighthawks over the Farmington River/Rt 4 crossing in
Farmington, and another 6 in Collinsville over the river by the
Collins Company in Collinsville.  Lots of food up there, apparently!

08/18/14 - Fairfield, Pine Creek Area -- 3 YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON,
1 MARSH WREN, 10 BOBOLINK.
Fairfield, Hoydens Hill Open Space -- 1 PHILADELPHIA VIREO, foraging
in the tall trees on the east side of the orchard (thanks, Charlie!),
1 male HOODED WARBLER (Orchard), 5 COMMON NIGHTHAWK.

08/18/14 - Madison, Hammonassett State Park -- 2 Stilt Sandpipers in
pool along Morain Trail with other shorebirds.

08/18/14 - Stratford, Boothe Memorial Park -- While playing volleyball
Monday night I had  loose group of 7 Common Nighthawks fly over. Yes,
it made me miss a ball.
