Which side of Cuba for Bahamas to Caymans late February passage?

Starting February 2011, my intention is to take my boat, a Sea Spirit
Passagemaker 60, from Ft. Lauderdale through the Panama Canal, and at least as
far as Golfito. I'd thought to stop in the Bahamas, Caymans, and San Andres
Island en route to Panama.

My question is: In the second half of February, coming from the Bahamas to the
Caymans, is there anything to be gained by choosing to go around the East end
of Cuba rather than the West end? I'm thinking in terms of passage
comfort/safety mostly, but I'm interested in other aspects too. My impression
is that either way, it is a bit of an uphill battle.

Thanks
