Shaw Professorship of Chinese

Faculty of Oriental Studies in association with University College

Start date: 1 September 2012, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Shaw professorship, established in 1876 and endowed by the Shaw
Benefaction in 1990,is central to the teaching and research in Chinese
language, literature and civilization in the University. The preferred
candidate will be a scholar of the highest international calibre, with an
outstanding record of research and publication in pre-modern or early modern
studies, the ability to teach and inspire students at all levels, and the
ability and willingness to undertake administration.
He or she will posses strong leadership qualities and will be ready to
represent and promote the interests of Chinese Studies in Oxford, as well as
nationally and internationally.
