Dear NCL Board Colleagues,

Rep. Jared Polis (Colorado) has agreed to introduce the AEFL Week resolution in the House, and Reps. Roe (Tennessee) and Grijalva (Arizona) have signed on as co-sponsors. We’d like to get more co-sponsors if we can.

Please take a moment to forward the attached Dear Colleague letter to your Representative’s office with a request to sign on. I will be sending a request to Mrs. Norton’s office, as I’m a resident of DC. Here’s what I plan to say. Feel free to use/adapt it yourself if you like.

Thanks!

Deborah

Dear Congresswoman Norton,

I am writing to you as a resident of the District of Columbia and a member of the Board of the National Coalition for Literacy to ask you to co-sponsor a resolution designating the week of Sept. 26-Oct 1, 2016, as National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week. AEFL Week raises public awareness about the need for and value of adult education and family literacy and the importance of access to basic education programs for the 36 million U.S. adults with low literacy skills.

I am attaching a Dear Colleague letter that was recently circulated by Representative Polis’ office. The letter provides more information about AEFL Week and the Congressman’s reasons for supporting it.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to seeing your name on the list of co-sponsors.

Hi again everyone,
Well, I’m still on the train. .. . . That’s probably not the way I should have started this email. Anyway, is there anything I should know about tomorrow’s general meeting? Do we need to get there early to help set anything up? Please note that I’m asking that question under the assumption that at some point before tomorrow, I will get to D.C.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Christy

I am so sorry you are still on the train! I have been there. I got stuck fro 3 hours behind a broken down train.

We will meet at ALA at 9am. I don’t think we have any prep to do, so see you there.
