Espar heater

I need some help with my 1970ish Espar diesel heater for my 42 foot Monk
trawler. It's been working great all winter keeping us warm here in the
Gulf Islands but stopped the other day with no warning. All it does now
is "run" a small internal motor (?fan) for about 30 seconds and then it
shuts off with an audible click. There is a red indented plastic toggle
switch which, if clicked over, allows the same truncated process to
occur again. The fuel is fresh stove oil in a new, topped-up, aluminum
fuel tank. All connections appear OK. All I have is a few pages of brief
installation instructions and no operation manual. The red toggle switch
is on the side of a box on top of the Espar heater which also has a red
push button which does not seem to activate anything when pushed. After
one of the brief cycles that box is warm to the touch. It is a type X 3,
model # 25 8585 (12 volt) Espar.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I suspect a pilot light is out or some
such problem. By the way, I understand these heaters are hard to repair
as the gaskets and other parts are no longer available.

Thanks,

Murray Archdekin

Murray - there is nothing wrong with your heater, it just decided that
it is now spring and you don't need it any more this year <VBG>  After
all I cut the grass today so it can't be that you really need the heat!
Sorry - could not resist but also I can't help with your problem either.
Good luck, take care out in those wild islands
