Under the direction of an assigned Recreation Senior Coordinator, Supervisor or Recreation Manager, plan, develop, promote and coordinate assigned recreational and leisure programs, activities, and administrative functions.
In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
- Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
- Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
- Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
Essential Duties:
- Provide on-going customer support, program implementation and maintenance of programs , in Visual & Performing Arts.
*Teach youth visual or performing arts classes in a variety of locations throughout Metro Parks and with partner organizations.
- Provide instruction of photography and some visual arts classes and camps as needed.
- Order, catalog, organize and distribute costumes as applicable to program participation.
- Backstage organization of both informal and large scale productions.
- Recruit, interview, train, assign and supervise program staff and volunteers.
- Provide editing of music for performances and community events.
- Assist in the development of youth dance lesson plans for each genre and level of youth dance.
- Provide regular management of class loads and evaluate students, ensuring students are placed in appropriate levels for their skill set.
- Liaison between the Costume Mistress and instructors, participants and lead staff as applicable to the production timeline.
- Regularly update website and social media sites.
- Promote/advertise classes, camps, performances and events to the community.
- Work within a given budget and timeline for on-going projects.
- Purchase supplies/materials when needed and distributing to program staff.
- Communicate between Center staff, instructors and program participants with regard to classes, camps, performances, workshops and other opportunities within the program.
- Plan, develop, conduct, promote and coordinate assigned recreational programs, activities and administrative functions in accordance with the interests and needs of the community.
- Organize and implement recreational activities and activity groups and schedule equipment and facility usage.
- Plan and conduct public programs and/or other special events for the recreational
program or facility to which assigned.
- Prepare various reports regarding activities and attendance; maintain various records in accordance with assigned recreational programs.
- Communicate with other District personnel regarding recreational and leisure programs and activities; attend conferences and workshops as required.
- Participate in the development of budgets for assigned programs; monitor expenditures; submit purchase requisitions and authorize time cards of assigned staff.
- Perform a variety of promotional activities to enhance awareness of assigned recreational program; prepare promotional displays and literature including brochures, news releases and photographs.
- Provide for proper safety of participants in recreational programs.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of three years of college including course work in fine arts program or related field.
- Two years increasingly responsible recreational experience.
LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Washington driver's license.
- First Aid and CPR Card.
Additional Information:

Up to 29 hours per week
ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor environment.
Adverse weather conditions.
Noise, dust, pollen and insects.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Sight to prepare written or typed recreational and leisure program material and monitor activities.
Hearing and speaking to conduct program and exchange information.
Walking over rough or uneven surfaces during field trips.
Ability to lift at least 10 lbs to shoulder height.
Ability to assist individuals with mobility limitations including, but not limited, in and out of vehicles and up and down stairs.
HAZARDS:
Possible contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.
