The Salida Classic
Another amazing weekend of bike racing in Salida! I would like to take this time to thank everyone involved in pulling this year's Salida Classic from the ashes.
The Monday before the race it was DOA in my opinion. We had one fifth of the volunteers needed to safely and successfully hold the race to the standards we have set over the past 10 years. The cycling community in Colorado stepped-up in a huge way, especially the President of the governing body, BRAC. I am humbled and forever grateful for their assistance and hard work.
This event would not have happened without the generous outpouring of support from our members, sponsors and the racers.
Thank you to Amica's, Absolute Bikes, Café Dawn, Salida Mountain Sports, Don't go Nuts, Pinon Real Estate, Scanga Meats, Salida Public Works, Parks and Rec, The Jug, HRRMC, RMOC, Computer Gearheads along with Salida Police and Chaffee County Sheriff Departments. A special thanks goes to Greg Townsend and his young men from Ridge View Academy/Rites of Passage. They are essential to our success.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the downtown businesses and the community of Salida in general.
This is one of the premier events on the calendar for bike racing in Colorado. Over 450 racers, along with their family and friends, target this weekend and Salida as a destination. They rent houses, fill the restaurants, shop downtown and book hotels. Many of them make plans to return during other seasons. Our economic survey this year indicates over $275,000 is spent in town for the weekend by this group.
The Salida Classic is the largest fund raiser we do for Salida Cycling Club. The profits generated allow us to support cycling efforts and education in the valley as well as AADA's Crest Crank, The Salida HS Mountain Bike Team, Chaffee County Mentors, Salida Mountain Trails, kid's bike light giveaways and so much more.
So one more time, thanks to everyone. It was special.
