It is with a heavy heart that I pass on to the club this news from Steve Seccombe about the death of his wife Gwen.

I remember Gwen and Steve supporting SCC (and SCR prior) ever since I joined in 2007.

Their participation in rides, club events, and various competitions over the years was an inspiring example of living lives on bikes.

Blessings to Gwen, Steve and their families and friends.

Gwen passed away this Tuesday following hip replacement surgery.  Service is next Wednesday at 11 AM, Clearview Community Church.  Burial at Olivet, then lunch after at church.

Best Regards,

Gwen rode with the club a lot years ago. She was a quiet person but very easy to have a conversation with and nice to ride with. I will always remember how she never gave up and rode with an oxygen bag and nasal cannula. I will never forget the club ride we did up Cottonwood pass when many of us were whining and complaining on how hard it was and then Gwen rides up to the top with her oxygen bag on her back without a complaint. She will always be my inspiration on a climb. Cheers Gwen you will be missed.

Nicely said Greg. She was always a pleasure to ride along. A decorated bike racer. Our condolences Steve.

Would anyone from Salida like to carpool next Wed? I can take 3. Will leave my house at 10 AM.

This is devastating news. She will be missed. A great person and inspiration to me at so many races. I just talked to her two weeks ago in Utah at a stage race. I believe she still rode the TT but did not do the other stages because her hip pain was too much to climb.

I am sorry Steve. Please let Molly and I know if there is anything we can do for you.

This is the story I will remember. At a time trial just two month ago in August in Wyoming the winds were blowing real hard. You could see it was a difficult race for Gwen to battle those head winds to finish the race. Steve waited for her at the finish. Steve held Gwen’s hand as he walked her and her bike back to his truck. You could see that they both had a love for racing and each other. That was special.

Gwen often rode with us on the bike club’s Thursday morning “BAM” rides.  Since I was often honcho of the ride, I would hang back to chat and keep her company but she would always say she was just a bit slow and didn’t want the group to have to wait for her.  She always insisted that I leave her and rejoin the group.  She was a lovely person and a good cyclist. This is a sad loss. Steve, you have our sincerest condolences.

Jeff, if you still have room, I’d like to ride with you.  I have to show up for jury duty Monday morning but since they usually don’t seat lawyers, I should be free on Wednesday.  If that changes, I’ll let you know on Monday.
