but please tip the dock boy, and
better yet also buy some fuel."

If I read the implicaton correctly, yes it is free, but I'm scum if I don't hand over some cash. I thought the discussion was where we can get a pump out without paying.

This is one part of American culture I hate (tipping for everything). Just tell me the cost, Don't send me on a guilt trip to get what you want. If I'm going to be left feeling guilty for only giving them $10 and my wife is going to think I'm cheap (actually she already knows this), maybe I'll find another way to dispose of the waste.

PS: I've installed a composting head to avoid the issue. So far I haven't had to empty it after 1.5 months of full time living aboard.

Simple solution. ...
Tipping warrants extraordinary service, not normal, expected service.
I'm a working stiff, perhaps like you, and dont have $$ to burn handing it
over to others simply because of social norms or pressure. But I do cough up
a few bucks to show my appreciation when its warranted and deserved.
I'm also a CHEAPSTER, so those expecting a tip from CHEAPSTERs will have to
average it out with the big bucks folks.
