Fill transmission with new oil.

NOTE: The amount of oil required will vary based on length of cooler lines.
Use an amount equal to about three-fourths the quantity removed.

Install dipstick. Run engine for two minutes to fill cooler and cooler lines
with oil. Set oil level according to procedure at start of section B.
Lubrication. "

This raises some questions for me with my twin Perkins with BW 72C's.
One of my transmission coolers drains from the bottom, and the other is
oriented to drain from the top (so it doesn't).  Thus when I check my
levels after shutting down the engines, the levels on the side that
drains from the bottom start at below "empty" and quickly rise to almost
over-filled.  However, on the other side, where the cooler is oriented
such that the oil stays in it, the levels start at mid-level and then
creep up a bit over the next few minutesl.  This makes it really tough
to know whether my levels are proper or not.  When I bought the boat a
month or so ago, the reputable mechanic inspected the engines suggested
that at the end of the season, I drain them, and then replace with the
amount indicated in the manual, and then see where the levels are
supposed to sit.  But it seems that this may not be a true indication of
how much I should put in to get a "true" level.  I'd sure like to get a
handle on this.  Any ideas?
