PUP still active?

G'day all, was wondering if the PUP list is still active. Haven't seen any
posting for a long time and don't know if it was something wrong on my end
or the list side.

In any case just  want to post that we are heading back to the West Coast
after quite a stay in Hawaii...far longer than anticipated when we arrived.

Planned departure is the end of May with arrival in mid-June in southern
California.

If I hear nothing from other memmbers of the list then I'll assume its shut
down.. Otherwise theres always lots to discuss while preparing for a nice
ride east from here ;-)

Cheers

I still monitor the PUP list, but doesn't seem like many posts in the past year.  So many voyagers are buying Nordhavns and depend on the owner's website for info that used to be covered in PUP.  Unfortunately, the list is closed to non Nordie boats.  There is also a proliferation of cruiser's websites that give personal experiences.  Perhaps some sort of link from PUP to these websites would help revive interest.

My guess is the list needs some PR such as announcement through the Diesel Duck group and the Selene group.  Perhaps a note in the Nordhavn Dreamers group would also help.

Hello Dave and Dennis,

I have ears on here as well and look forward to stories of your continued travels. Suspect Dennis is right about Nordhavn owners, but even so we are very interested in all who voyage, just need contributors to liven the halls here.

Hi Dave and Nancy,

I went to
http://lists.trawlering.com/pipermail/passagemaking_lists.trawlering.com/
and looked at the archives.  Your recent post interests me as do all
about ocean passages, but I, too, do not see much activity on this
list.  A shame that I get more monthly reminders about the list than
posts.  I wish you a safe passage on Swan Song back to the "eastern" "48".

PUP has always been Nordhavn oriented ignoring alternative adventures.  Our late hero Larry Briggs tried to correct that mindset, to no avail.

Georgs, seems like a flurry of private posts since I woke up the list.

I'll be posting along as I continue the prep for this wrong way run.
Once we depart well be quite except for our position up dates on InReach.
I'll post the link once it is all working.

I'll also be posting on the trawler list for shores side issues in the so
cal area.

I've always been amused at the some of the Nordhavn owners we've met in the
past. Usually in a remote rolly anchorage when their rolling and Swan Song
sits quietly with glasses on the table......hmmmmmm After a bit we'll get a
knock, nice introduction, share where we've been and going, etc.

The it always comes out after a tour of Swan Song.....why isn't this boat
rolling???? I didn't see any stabilizers, etc etc.

ART, Anti Roll Tank, is where its at. Zero speed or underway works 24/7 no
power, no maintenance no nothing...... Gee why can we have one is the next
question but I'll let them tell you the answer sometime.

2nd item is my 100% automatic energy management system. It has been working
for 12 years now. Does care if you are on shore power or off. Doesn't care
how much power you wish to use. A combination of a large house back (16
golf carts), two 4 KW sine wave inverters, an auto start/timed run/auto
stop 10 KW genset and and pair of 120 v AC Load managers drop loads in a
priority that one can set. That can take a bit of figuring out but is very
simple...hot water heater is the first to go, then the dryer etc etc. Soon
as the lower items reduce theor draw the bigger less important stuff will
come back. The are delays for all this and built in hysteresis so that they
aren't dumping and reattaching all the time. NOTHING custom just off the
shelt stuff put together in a clever way,

BTW just replaced the house batteries East Penn I bought in 2007 in St
Martin with East Penn Duracell G10's same battery as the old ones, G10's,
soooooo guess the system works pretty well....does auto equalize also
BTW....as I said no fuss no muss just power for anything AC/DC when you
need it

So the Nordhavn folks say why can you have this and I don't??? I just say
that I have more steak and less sizzle ;-)

Lots more on board if some of you can remember....no physical controls.
Swan Songs is all Fly by Wire courtesy of a Swiss company that makes the A
300 series Fly by Wire controls!!

1/2" tempered & laminated safety glass to look out at those big waves.

So I agree that there are many offshore passagemakers hiding out there that
have no voice or market clout. Lets see if I can start some new life to
this old tread....all for you Georgs as you're the one that got a good many
off there couches and on the water big time....I'll tip my hat to you on
that one, mate!!

Cheers

Dave

Snip.....
Our late hero Larry Briggs tried to correct that mindset, to no avail.

Larry and I shared some time 6-7 years back as he was on his way to SE
Asia. He was trying to convince my daughter to join him for that
adventure...gotta say that he came darn close that old devil ;-)

Got lots of pictures some where around....might see if I can dig them up on
this passage....not much else to do but follow the dotted line, eh!! Oh and
eat ice cream:-)

Cheers

I spent my time with Larry in Trinidad and Fort Lauderdale 2008 to 2013.  He also asked me to do the trip.  I will assume I was his second (or fifth) choice.  His solution to the bottom paint endeavor was not to stop the boat.
