TWL: Anchor

Tom,
You do not say what type of bottom you will be anchoring in, or what part
of the world.  My personal opinion is that I will not use a Bruce--Now I
realize that there are many on TWL who disagree.  However I am well aware of
many cases where Bruces have dragged, and deltas held.  If I was going to
anchor in soft mud, I would go with a Superfax.  Other anchors I like are the
fisherman and the Northill pattern (probably the most used anchor in the
world in fishing boats).  The spade has also had very high ratings.

Bob,
Interesting comment abt the NORTHILL style anchor.
I have given serious thought to doing a column on this phenomena.
We pleasure boaters commiserate constantly about anchors and what is "best" ad
nausium.
No matter where I go along a coast and look at boats of all types and
particularly the local fishing craft, no matter what fishery , they invariably
use  NORTHILL style anchors. The really strange thing is practically none of the
pleasure boats in the same marina have them. Go figure. Remember we are anchoring
in the same waters.
I have  a CQR and  two  DANFORTHs  so I am as guilty as the rest!!!

Question for electronics people out there.

On most of the electronic equipment on my boat, there
is a place where someone once upon a time was supposed
to connect a "ground wire". None of the equipment has
this. I understnad this can and likely will cause
inferference in the radio correct?

I think that it is ok to hook up battery ground to the
the units "ground place"?? If not, what is the
alternative?

Thanks
Dan
