Subject: Re: TWL: Trash Compactor?

Trash compactors are great ideas, but the result is too heavy to be easily
handled, IMO.

I remember a long time ago seeing a manual, 1-human-powered trash compactor.
Had a fold-down handle in the top of it that was lifted up and became the
plunger to push down a flat plate in the can lid to compact the trash down
into the container.

Seems like this could be an inexpensive, low maintenance alternative to an
electric, high-powered one.  Anyone using one of these and know if they are
still available, and from where?

The DBL-ELL has 2 of these manual compactors on board and they work fine.
They work just as Mel described.  We like them so much that we used them at
the house before the boat.  They use the standard kitchen trash bag and all
works well.  We bought ours from Suplus Unlimited in Daytona ( they are all
gone now) but they can be purchased at WestMarine/Boat US.  Around $45 as I
remember.  WHOOPS just looked in all my catalogs and could not find them
listed any where.  Might try a RV store.Surplus Unlimited sometimes has them
on a hit and miss interval.  http://www.surplusunlimited.com

Thanks, Lee.  Debbie Huddleston replied earlier and said they are available
for at:
http://www.mailordercentral.com/welcomeaboard/

I went there and their webpage said they were out of stock.  I email them to
ask when they would be in stock and got a prompt reply saying they had just
been resupplied.  I think I'm gonna' order one tonight.  They want $49.95
for them.

It was great meeting you Lee.  Thanks again for lunch.  :)
