From Bev Propen
CAS Coastal Center Marsh 10 AM-1PM
6 GREATER YELLOW LEGS
5 SNOWY EGRETS
1 GREAT BLUE HERON
1 JUVENILE YELLOW CROWNED NIGHT HERON
1 JUVENILE HERRING GULL, running after the adult Herring Gull, juvenile was
begging, and extending its neck . After quite some time, it finally caught
its own crab, which it smacked around and consumed. It put on quite a show.
Later in the day, (4:30PM-4:50PM) I stopped by the field at intersection of
121 & route 34, which Nick Bonomo mentioned. A beautiful expanse of land.
I did see the Clay colored sparrow at the location of the solitary tree;
also 2 Savannah sparrows, a song sparrow and a Peregrine Falcon (I
believe),possibly a Merlin, which I could see had pointed wings , a long tail and a
definite dark mustache, in the tall trees behind the solitary tree in the field. It
landed on the center top of the tallest tree in the background.
Being that I was on the paved part of the road and looking through
binoculars in the distance, I could see a mustache and the pointed wings as it flew,
but size was hard to determine.
Lots of monarchs in the field.
