Hi all.
Some friends of mine and I are hoping to visit Cuba, alas, on dry land and
were wondering what the latest rules and regulations were. But more so,
what the watery world is like there, I have training is a reef biologist
and a most anxious to look at the condition of the reefs.
I have traveled a lot in the tropical Pacific and have noted what others
before me have seen which is that biodiversity roughly tracks the size of
the island where the reef exists. So I'm very optimistic that if the reefs
have not been ruined as they have elsewhere, that I might find a wider
range of reef animals than in other parts of the Caribbean
.
What is foremost in my mind is the extent to which the government allows
you to wander about. For example in China tourism is very strictly
regulated and you can't go just anywhere you please. On the other hand if
some of you have taken boats to Cuba you have been to exactly the sort of
place in which I have the most interest
.

Peter,
Cuba is not yet open to recreational tourism by U.S. Citizens.

Ryan

Peter:
Go to cubamar.org and see their marine science tour options.

Of course by that Ryan means the U.S. Government does not allow U.S.
Recreational boats to go to Cuba. From the Cuban standpoint, Cuba is open
to U.S. Boaters.
